The windows are made using traditional leading and painting techniques but in a non traditional style..
The paint is made specifically for glass. It comes in a powdered form that is mixed with different liquid mediums, depending on which stage of the painting application is being used. Only one or two layers of different colored paint can be applied at a time before the piece must be fired at temperatures around 1250 degrees F. The firing makes the paint permanent. Each glass piece with paint has been fired between 2 to 5 times to create the image that is on the glass.
Once the glass is cut and painted, all the pieces are assembled into a completed window using the leading and/or foiling technique.
